How to Increase Google Page Rank

Google’s Page Rank scale has been both the boon and the bane of webmasters’ existences ever since it was created so many years ago. Based on a detailed algorithm, it returns a 0-10 number that is a very basic representation of a very complex equation. Page Rank is determined by several factors, the most notable of which are the links pointing to your site, the value of which is based in turn on the Page Rank of the site from which the link originates.

Page Rank is a value that, if you run your website correctly and honestly, will increase slowly over time. Google only updates its Page Rank value maybe three or four times a year, so increases can usually happen gradually. However, there are times that a website’s Page Rank will increase significantly after an update, which could be just the result of one link from a highly ranked website. It’s a complex system that tries to reward honesty and natural linking.

Now, with all that being said, if you have website that has no or low Page Rank value, how can you increase your Page Rank? There are a few ways, including:

  • Social Media: If your business doesn’t have a social media platform, you need to correct this immediately. Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are a premiere way to get your website linked to from all over the web. If you have good products, content and so on, people will share links to your website with others, increasing the number and hopefully value of your links.
  • Have great content that is regularly updated: If you have a blog or a news section on your website, make sure it is updated regularly with fun, useful, well-written content that your customers will share with their friends and family. Google loves natural links such as this, so they will definitely be of value.
  • Become an authority: What do I mean by this? Well, what is the main focus of your business? Do you sell electronics, for example? Then write content that shows just how much you know about electronics, the products you sell, troubleshooting product problems and so on. Do you offer rental cars? Then write and gather all of the information you can the cars you offer and put it on your site in a clear and concise manner to give a potential customer all the information they could ever want on a car they might be renting. Try to be a go-to place for information on your topic, and people with their links will follow.
  • Rent yourself out: What I mean by this is to do things like guest blogging, for example. You can write a blog on a topic that your business covers and then use the opportunity to link back to your own site. Google loves this sort of thing.

These are just some of the ways you can, over time, increase your Page Rank. You will notice, however, that I’ve not mentioned paid linking. This is because Google frowns on such a thing, and in the long run this can cause all sorts of problems, so I’m not covering it.
